Role Color Rotator

Automatically change Discord role colors with RGB or custom colors.

Prerequisites

To use the Role Color Rotator, you need:

  • A Discord Bot with the "Manage Roles" permission
  • The bot must be in the target server
  • The bot's role must be above the roles you want to modify in the role hierarchy
Warning

The bot can only modify roles that are positioned below its own role in the server's role hierarchy.

Setup

Step 1: Create a Discord Bot

  1. Visit discord.com/developers/applications
  2. Create a new application or select an existing one
  3. Go to Bot section and click Add Bot
  4. Click Reset Token and copy the bot token (store it securely!)
  5. In Privileged Gateway Intents, enable Server Members Intent

Step 2: Invite the Bot

Use this URL to invite your bot (replace CLIENT_ID with your Application ID):

https://discord.com/oauth2/authorize?client_id=CLIENT_ID&permissions=268435456&scope=bot

The 268435456 permission includes "Manage Roles" which is required.

Step 3: Configure in Status Rotator++

  1. Go to Settings and paste your Bot Token in the designated field
  2. Go to the Role page from the sidebar
  3. Choose your server from the dropdown list
  4. Check the roles you want to modify
Note

Roles with a lock icon cannot be modified because they are either above the bot's role or managed by integrations.

Color Modes

RGB Mode

Enable RGB Mode to automatically cycle through rainbow colors.

The rotator will cycle through 12 vibrant rainbow colors in sequence:

  • Red → Orange → Yellow → Green → Cyan → Blue → Purple → Pink → and back

This creates a smooth, animated rainbow effect on your selected roles.

Custom Colors Mode

Disable RGB Mode to use your own custom color palette:

  1. Click the color picker or enter a hex code
  2. Click Add to add the color to your palette
  3. Click any existing color to modify it with the picker
  4. Select a color and click Delete to remove it
  5. Click Reorder and drag colors to change the sequence

Settings

Delay

The Delay setting controls the time between each color change:

SettingRecommended For
1 secondRapid animations (risky)
3-5 secondsSmooth transitions
10+ secondsSubtle changes
Warning

A delay less than 3 seconds may trigger Discord rate limits. Use with caution.

Starting the Rotator

  1. Ensure at least one role is selected
  2. Choose your color mode (RGB or Custom)
  3. Set your preferred delay
  4. Click Start Rotator

The current color will be highlighted during rotation.

To stop, click Stop Rotator.

Best Practices

  • Use a dedicated bot - Create a bot specifically for this purpose
  • Position bot role correctly - The bot's role must be above all roles it needs to modify
  • Start with longer delays - Begin with 5+ seconds and decrease if needed
  • Limit simultaneous roles - Modifying many roles at once increases rate limit risk

Troubleshooting

Bot Not Changing Colors

  1. Verify bot is in server - Check that the bot appears in your server's member list
  2. Check role hierarchy - The bot's role must be above target roles
  3. Verify permissions - Bot needs "Manage Roles" permission
  4. Check bot token - Ensure the token is correct and hasn't been regenerated

Rate Limit Errors

If you're seeing rate limit errors:

  1. Increase the delay (minimum 3 seconds)
  2. Reduce the number of roles being modified
  3. Wait a few minutes before trying again

Locked Roles

Roles showing a lock icon cannot be modified:

  • They may be above the bot's role
  • They may be managed by an integration (like Nitro Booster role)
  • They may be the @everyone role
